Office of the Great Lakes

Earth Day 2004 Governor Doyle directed the Department of Natural Resources to establish an Office of the Great Lakes. This Office is charged with implementing a comprehensive program to protect the lakes, identify problems and solutions, and serve as a contact point for the Great Lakes Community. Governor Doyle recently became co-chair of the Council of Great Lakes Governor’s, a partnership of Great Lakes states to tackle ecosystem-based and economic challenges. This Council has identified nine priorities for the Great Lakes that are intended to create a unified regional agenda to restore the Great Lakes and focus national attention on this internationally significant resource. We are at a critical juncture with opportunities to protect and restore the Great Lakes for generations to come.
